In space, noone can hear you scream
Prolog
The Weyland-Yutami company rules most busness on Earth. Including space mining. The freighter Nostromo is shipping ore. As usual on long journeys, the seven crewmembers are in a condition called 'hypersleep'. Everything is quitet and calm, but catastrophy is on the way. A signal is picked up by the main-computer 'Mother'...
Introduction
The space-ship Nostromo is slowly awakening. A couple of beeps starts the awakening of the seven crewmembers Dallas, Kane, Ripley, Lambert, Ash, Parker and Brett. They've been out in space a long time. They want home and that they are awakened is a signal that tells them that they are not far away from home. The crew eats breakfast together. Their spirit is high. Parker starts complaining about the salary and says that he and his pal, Brett wants a bigger part of the salary-cake. Ripley interrupts him, telling him that he'll get the salary he deserves. Something beeps. It's 'Mother' calling on Dallas. He excuses himself and walks away from the group and to the small computer room.
After finishing their breakfast, the crew of the Nostomo goes to their posts. Lambert and Ripley sits at communications. Ripley calls to the Earth control. No one answers. Just silence. She tries again, but noone answers her now either. Ripley looks at the star-map. She can't find Earth...
Dallas summons his crew. Mother had told him that they were merely half-way home. She had detected some kind of signal. The signal looked like a distress-call and any ship that happened to notice emergency-calls had to check on it. Parker states angrily that he and Brett anticipated a raise in their salary for checking out the signal. Ripley tells him that he'll get his part.
The crew lands the cockpit and living-quarters of the Nostromo on the planet LB-468. It is a tough ride down and the Nostromo is slightly damaged. Parker tells Ripley it would take twice the time to fix the ship as it actually would.
Dallas, Kane and Lambert is preparing themselves to a two mile walk to the stranded space-ship. When the outer doors are opened the three stares outside, where a blizzard is raging.
Ash monitors the three through camera and vocal communication. Ripley asks him if she could try to crack the signal code.
The Alien Space-Ship
Dallas, Kane and Lambert is overwhelmed by the size and shape of the space-ship. It is shaped as a doughnut - a circular shape. When they enters the alien space-ship, the radio-contact with the Nostomo is broken.
Ripley tells Ash that she think that the signal-code wasn't an emergency call, but a warning. She offers herself to get out on the planet and follow the away-team and tell them that the signal was a warning. Ash tells Ripley rather aggressivly that if the code was a warning, they would know before Ripley had the chance of telling them.
The three finds what must have been the cockpit of the ship. A large shape rests in what seems to be a chair. It is dead, and has been dead for thousands of years. The body has decayed and the bones has turned to stone. The three examines the huge body with awe. It was a space-man, just like them. It had flewn the same skies and seen the same stars. And now it lay here dead.
They find a strange kind of fraction in the creature's chest. It's like something had exploded from inside out. Kane discoveres a hole in the floor. It is shaped as if acid had been spilled on the deck and had the time burn it's way through. When he looks down the hole, he sees a large container-room. Dallas and Lambert abandons the alien pilot and studies the hole. Kane is lowered down. The container-room is humongous. It's size is of a huge hall. Kane moves carefully around inside. He tells Dallas and Lambert that it is quite hot down there and that it is some kind of membrane over some leathery objects that reminded of eggs. Kane then slipps and falls down among the eggs. He is not hurt and starts studying one of the objects. It is tranclucent and it looked like something was alive inside. Suddenly the top of the egg splitts in four pieces. Kane looks into the egg when something jumps out of the egg with an incredible speed.
Kane's Condition
The away-mission is back at the Nostomo and
Ripley wonders why Kane don't talk to her.
Ripley: "What happened to Kane?"
Dallas: "I don't know. Some kind of creature attached itself to his face. Now let us in."
Ripley: "No."
Dallas and Lambert is wildly protesting against Ripley's desicion.
Dallas: "If you don't let us in, he [Kane] will die."
Ripley: "If I let you in, we might all die."
Ash is at the hatches and openes them. Dallas and Lambert almost falls in the door.
Kane is rushed to the medic. They cut the helmet in two. When the pieces falls off, they are stunned. A eight-legged creature with a long, bony tail has attached itself to Kane's face. The medical exam leaves the crew confused. They can't understand that it is keeping him unconsious but feeds him O2. They try prying the thing off. It tighens it's grip on Kane's neck. They get to the conclution that if they tried ripping it off, Kane's face would go too. Ash says that it might go if they try cutting off a foot or two. Ash prepares the incition and makes the cut. A dash of light-yellow fluid is sprouting from the foot and on the floor. It starts eating it's way through the hull immediately. The crew rushes down a floor. There they see that the fluid has started to tear at the next hull. When the fluid has stopped it's destructive route, the crew gathers around, staring at the last small hole in the ceiling. Dallas borrows a pen from Brett and pushes the end into the acid. It eats off the top of the pen.
When the crew is once more up in medics with Kane and Ash, Dallas draws the conclution that it's too dangerous to try to remove the thing. After all, Kane is still alive. If it wanted to kill him, it would have done so long time ago.
Ripley confronts Ash. She wonders why he opened the outer door. He defends himself by saying that he followed order. Ripley growls that when Dallas and Kane was off the ship - SHE, not Dallas nor Kane was the chief-in-command.
